How much does it cost to manufacture electronics?
View the examples below, which range in price from 0.85 to 22.0 euros. Each example also includes a description of the production set-up and one-time costs. The average B.O.M (bill-of-materials) is determined considering 100 pieces manufacturing batch in a single production run.
BEFORE DIRECTLY DIVING INTO EXAMPLES, CONSIDER THIS
The STENCIL must be purchased to assemble an electronic board. If your board is filled with SMD components, it is required. The average cost is around 80 € up to 125 €. This is considered a 'one-time' cost. The stencil will allow you to manufactuiìre over 20.000 electronic boards. The assembling robot programming of SMD has a cost ranging from 100€ up to 200€. Each time you start a manufacturing process there is a lot of work to do: checking components, feeding the assembling line, and miscellaneous activities. This task is practically the same in manufacturing 10 boards or 1000 boards. Making more pieces will automatically reduce the cost of the single board. Some manufacturing companies charge around 150€ up to 250€ if you have to manufacture only a few electronic boards. Additional costs may include dynamic TEST, BURN-In and special packaging if required.

The assembling cost of a complex electronic board
What does a complex board mean? In a few words, this is the case of boards with expensive components that require special care. In some cases, power components must be manually assembled. This assembling is done by skilled personnel. The following board is a crystal-clear example.

How to Estimate and Reduce PCB Assembly Cost
An electronic board is not difficult to estimate regarding cost: see our examples. Usually, you can save assembly costs by using more boards—500 pieces as opposed to 100—in the assembly process. This implies that if your manufacturing setup costs are 500€, each board will only cost 1€ instead of 5€! A bigger number of boards also results in a proportionate reduction in the bill of materials. Reducing cost by design is the most effective approach to lower the assembly cost. Although this task is difficult, we can assist you.

How much does it cost to get a PCB assembled
You can use the formula: NR(SMD) X 0,011€+NR(PTH) X 0,04€ + STARTUP/NR. of boards. In the formula, NR(SMD) is the total number of SMd components and NR(PTH) is the total number of PTH components. The STARTUP includes all activities of preparing the assembly line. It may range from 150€ up to 600€. It heavily depends on the complexity of the board. For 200 component boards, you may consider 200€. Assuming 180 SMD components, 20 PTH components and a MANUFACTURING BATCH OF 250 PIECES, the final cost will be around:
(180x0,011€)+(20x0,04€)+(200€/200)=2,2€+0,8€+1€=4,0€
YOU MAY NEED TO ADD VISUAL INSPECTION, TESTINGS, ADDITIONAL WORKS AND PACKAGING COSTS. YOU MAY EXPECT A TOTAL COST OF ABOUT 7.0€
